Remember this?
If 750 or so days does seem light-years away, remember that Euro 2008 is just around the corner. And it looks like all the games will be televised on ABC, ESPN, and ESPN2.
Since England didn’t qualify, I intend to sit back and enjoy the tournament. There’s a real freedom to enjoy the games when there’s no rooting interest, isn’t there? There’ll be no agony watching them go down on penalties this time, to Portugal or anyone else…

Great footage! Great song! Thanks for sharing, Susan.
You’re right about the relaxed feeling going into Euro 2008. I’m sure I’ll have my rooting interests, but none that could put me in a day-long funk for losing. That said, I’m happy to trade off the potential for downside for the chance to be champions both May 11 and May 21. As a fellow Man U fanatic, I think you know what I mean.

The eternal question…remember the angel played by Bruno Ganz in Wings of Desire? Is it better to be a human and completely experience life–both the beauty and the suffering–or be angelically removed from it all?

Franklin Foer has already taken the idea of how soccer explains the world. I have not seen, however, any work on how soccer addresses the great philosophical questions of our day. Any interest? Your blog tends that way on occasion.
Good one.

I think I’ll let you write the post that links soccer and philosophy Steve!
